As we head into the winter months, the 2025 Exterior Painting Season has come to an end. One of our last exterior projects for this season was a beautiful Log Cabin Home hidden in a secluded area of Mt Airy MD. Staining a Log Cabin Home correctly a little more attention than a standard exterior painting project. The Siding/ Logs have to be properly prepared by a Soft Wash to remove all dirt and debris safely without causing any damage. The materials are also slightly different to work with then standard paint. We use a Log Siding specific penetrating oil finish that is apply by hand brushing each individual board.

This application is time consuming and takes a lot of attention to detail. Too much stain and it will run, too little it will look blotchy. If you are looking for the best results, Log Home Staining should be left to a professional!

Painting an old home, especially one that is historic, requires attention to detail in order to preserve its character and structure. There are some unique challenges when it comes to painting an older home. Being that the surfaces are old, they have many layers of paint and are typically not in the best condition. Pealing, cracks, moisture and rot are all common issues. Some areas may even need to be replaced prior to painting. Proper surface preparation is key and usually needs to be done by hand which is less abrasive. It is important not to damage the integrity of the substrate. Exterior Painting poses several dangers. Especially when it comes to any surface that requires a ladder to reach. Using ladders on uneven surfaces, slippery surfaces on simply not having it properly set up can cause a fall.  The higher up the surface, the greater the danger. Reaching a high surface to paint is hard enough, actually painting it while you are up there is even harder. At Painting Contractors of MD we take safety very serious. We eliminate the dangers of high work by utilizing one of our company owned lifts. This ensures that our employees are properly trained on the use and safety of the machine and are very familiar with it.

Do you have a Farm or Farmette that needs a face lift? Simply painting the barns and/or outbuildings can drastically change the appearance and aesthetics of the property.

Due to the nature of these structures, typically large with old wood, barns and out buildings tend to get neglected. Not to mention, the constant abuse from the livestock. When the time comes to tackle the project there can be an extensive amount of prep work before the actual painting can begin. One of our recent Barn Painting Projects was this horse run in located in Woodbine, MD. Before the painting could begin, this barn got a thorough wash to remove all the dirt and debris. Then we hand scraped all the surfaces to be painted to remove all the remaining loose and pealing paint. This non abrasive method insured that we did not damage any of the wood during the process. Last, we applied two coats of Premium Sherwin Williams  Solid Wood Stain.
