These custom built-in cabinets at this Howard County home turned out amazing! The homeowner in Glenwood, MD hired a contractor to install the build, and afterwards we painted these interior cabinets with an incredible custom paint job. First, we encapsulated the entire room in order to keep paint and overspray off all unpainted surfaces, and then we applied a premium primer to all painted surfaces. Next, we sanded all primed areas, cleaned the cabinets, then applied two coats of a high-grade two-component cabinet paint. After cleaning up, we finished by staining and clear coating the countertop and shelves.

This historic barn in Howard County, MD was in desperate need of restoration— this barn is over 100 years old, and our crew took great pride in restoring it. Painting Metal Pole Buildings in Glenwood MD

If you’re considering painting your metal pole building, you’ve come to the right place and the right company. The first and most important thing to consider when painting a metal building is the coating that’s currently on it— most metal buildings are originally painted in the factory with Polyvinylidene-Fluoride, popularly known by its original trade name Kynar, or PVDF. PVDF resin-based coating or finish, a family which includes Teflon and Halar. Key to these chemicals’ toughness is the bond between carbon and fluoride, the strongest possible polymeric connection.

PVDF resin has a high chalk resistance and gloss retention, as well as stain and chemical resistance. It’s softer than SMPs and polyesters, however, it’s highly formable without having the risk of cracking. PVDF is most durable when it makes up 70 percent of the resin; higher concentrations do not coat well, since the acrylic is important for dispersion during the coating process.

Kynar is an extremely durable coating and acknowledged as the premium resin for coil coatings. However, repainting over this coating comes with some challenges. Virtually no off-the-shelf exterior paints will properly adhere to it. Painting Contractors of MD uses the correct commercial grade primers and products to do the job done right, and make sure the paint job is lasting, and just as good as the original Kynar paint coat!

Let’s take a look at what the process looks like from start to finish:

The Painting Contractors of MD process starts with a good cleaning— for this we use a hot water pressure washer and biodegradable and environmentally safe chemicals. We like to use a hot or warm water because it breaks down the dirt and grime resulting in a more thorough clean. Next, we remove the shutters, down spouts, and anything removable that is not being painted. Doors, windows, and shrubs are then covered. The first coat of paint is a Sherwin-Williams Masonry Primer called Loxon, which seals porous masonry surfaces to ensure a uniform look and long-lasting finish. This is followed by two top coats of Duration, another Sherwin-Williams product that uses patented Sherwin Williams PermaLast® technology that uses advanced acrylic co-polymers, so your paint job lasts. Duration also provides a mildew-resistance coating, and requires a minimum number of coats so the job can be finished quickly, with less downtime and disruption outside your home.

The last step is to remove all protective coverings from plants, doors, and windows. Any shutters and drains are re-attached, and the Painting Contractors of MD crew cleans up the job site, so everything looks exactly as it did before, but with a refresh.

When working on a big home renovation, some General Contractors insist on using “their” painter— usually this is to make sure they make a profit on the painting phase— for example, this interior paint job of the kitchen, dining area and living room area. Unfortunately, the painters General Contractors use are not always the best painters, and this beautiful kitchen ended up with an unprofessional paint job that was sloppy and used inferior products for the paint.

Painting Contractors of MD was hired to come to this house in Howard County, MD, and repaint the rooms, using our signature Sherwin Williams paint. In the photos below, you can see our process, and one of our workers carefully and neatly putting the finishing touches on this coffered ceiling in the kitchen area. As you can see from the photo, Painting Contractors of MD is carefully to drape plastic over areas to keep them free of paint, as well as carefully taping areas for straight, perfect lines.
